8 Best Built-In Gas Grills in 2020

Everyone has a favorite outdoor BBQ story. My story also is the reason I began my research on the best built-in gas grills of 2020.

Picture this – it’s a beautiful July 4th BBQ night in the year 2020. We had gathered around the backyard as a family. Our outdoor gas grill was on, and we had beers in our hands. There was just enough time before the fireworks lit up the sky.

I also had some juicy burger patties on the grill with some corn on the cob. It had been there for 15 minutes and was still getting nowhere. So here I am, cranking up the heat on our gas grill. On the highest setting, the grill sizzles sharply and promptly trips the rest of the circuit out.

All the lights in our house and backyard go dark just in time for fireworks to light up the sky. Overall, it is a very dramatic story. But the reality was that we ended up getting pizza and a huge bill from the electrician.

Rating factors

So, here I am searching online to understand what I should look for, what I need, and what I want. Here are the points I kept in mind while looking at different brands:

  • Cost
  • Ignition system
  • Cooking surface
  • Grill build material
  • Grilling temperatures
  • Heat distribution
  • Grill warranty
  • Additional features

All best built-in gas grills have these aspects and the difference between the best and mediocre is usually because of a variance in these features.

Why are they important?

Cost is a no-brainer. I was looking for a reasonable price. It was going to be in our backyard, and I was looking at an investment. I was fine paying top-dollar but I needed the grill to be exceptional. As far as ignition went, I wanted an easy solution. I have seen different ignition methods – electronic, rotary dial or push-button starters. Electronic buttons while convenient, can give in to constant wear and tear. Rotary dials are the Piezoelectric ignition type that turns friction to spark. High-end grills also come with hot surface ignition

Grill features

As far as cooking surfaces go – gas grills come with any number of burners.  The minimum is two as far as most grilling techniques require. More burners allow for more food to be cooked and also increases the cooking surface. It is important to separate the cooked meat or vegetables. Most experts allow an inch between the food items.

The burger was named the most likely thing to find on any given grill than you are with the 85% majority that likes to have a hamburger on their barbecue.

Build material

304-grade stainless steel is the best choice for built-in gas grills. If the overall grill and grates are made of stainless steel, then they are stain-resistant, durable, and easy to clean. The grates also need to hold high temperatures for grilling and searing. Other materials are coated cast iron and porcelain; however, these are prone to scratches and marks during frequent use.

We need high temperatures to grill that meat to perfection. Not only is the temperature necessary, the areas on the grill that become hot are also important. Grilling requires a maximum of 400 F on the upper grate and a maximum of up to 600 F on the lower grates.

Heat Distribution

Heat distribution is just as important as temperature. Food cooks thoroughly and at the same rate on a surface with even heat distribution. Grilling at low temperatures for a long time is possible with even heat distribution. Grates and burners contribute to heat distribution, as do the grill material, and insulation. British Thermal Units are an industry standard to measure the heat or power of the grill. So when making a choice, a BTU is a good indicator of a grill’s capacity if the grill is built well.

Additional features

Warranties make a grill more attractive. If you are going to be using a grill frequently, make sure the warranty helps you offset any repairs or replacements. Generally speaking, a grill with a longer period of warranty is a better buy.

Now, additional features on a grill could be anything from side burners, to thermostats or sear burners. So just be sure that when you are buying a grill, these additional features increase the value and use of the gas grill.

Customer review and feedback

Another aspect that I always pay attention to when I am buying products online is the customer review section. Previous customer feedback alerts me to the pros and cons. It also provides realistic situations about examples of gas grill use. So I am also going to be giving you some statistics while buying these products on Amazon.

Buying Guide

In all, I am sure reading through these built-in gas grill reviews was an eye-opener and informative. What I will now do is quickly tell you how these grills rank in terms of specific features. It’s basically what to look for in a built-in gas grill.

I will reiterate a few points made earlier and pull in a few new ones for your consideration.

  • Cost and upgrades
  • Build material
  • Brand
  • Servings and food type
  • Sizing

Here’s the breakdown

Always understand how much you are willing to pay for a grill. Most importantly, know what you can not afford. There are built-in gas grills for all budget ranges. You can always research more within a range of your choice and come to a conclusion based on the features that the grill. Also, look for a grill that you can upgrade. In conclusion, it is good to keep in mind if you know that your needs will increase in the future.

Definitely, do not compromise on the material. There is a reason why good quality commercial stainless steel is preferred. Similarly, look for double-lined walls, airtight edges, and durable construction. If it is a poorly built grill, even a high BTU will be of no use, since it will lose most of the heat. Look for the luxury in the chrome accents.

Once you know your budget, you will be able to follow through on research about different brands. There are various brands selling different types of grill. The bottom line is to identify a brand that has a good reputation, builds quality products and offers maximum value for your money.

It is important to know how much you will cook, and how often you will be cooking. The choice of the grill may differ based on the answers. I prefer to cook both small and big portions of meat and both require different temperatures. This means I need a grill that can quickly hit high temperatures of at least 600 F. The grill needs to be durable if you are going to be using it every day. Again, the choices differ based on these factors.

Finally, you need to get the right size of the grill. This knowledge comes from understanding all the factors. If you need an outdoor gas grill, where will it go? Are you looking for a grill that will stand on its own or a drop-in grill? Do you already have an area designated, if so how big is it? Pick your grill based on these cooking and location needs.

ESPN writes that there are hundreds of organized events throughout the country all focused on barbecuing. Cash prizes can be awarded upwards of $15,000.
